Direct Trade
Direct Trade means we buy cocoa directly from the farmers, in person, with no broker in the middle, and we share the profit.
We show up
We have made more than fifty origin trips. We negotiate the price at the table with the farmers themselves, and we sign the contract in the room. Nobody signs anything they have not read in their own language.
Above market, every time
We pay above the farmgate and world market price, in cash, on the spot, and then we pay a profit share on top once the beans have become bars.
A stake in the outcome
Profit share is calculated from the actual sales of the bars made with a community's beans, which means our partners share in a good year and understand exactly what happened in a bad one.
Beyond the beans
Profit share has funded school lunch programs, clean water and the Empowered Girls and Enlightened Boys Clubs in our partner communities.
